Lindsay's 2013 Buck

Post  TheCReW on Wed Nov 27, 2013 6:39 am

Its been a long season, but also a lot of fun. The level of effort we put into hunting this year was the highest we have ever put in for sure. Many of our good spots from past years do not have any mature bucks this year due to tough winters so we moved around a lot and cast a bigger net this year. We started getting pictures of a double drop tine buck a couple weeks ago and Lindsay was determined to focus on him. He was almost exclusively nocturnal but we did have one encounter with him last week, but he didn't give Lindsay a clear shot as he ran through the area, on the trail of a doe. This all changed yesterday when a big doe came in and we could see a shadow in the trees behind her. It was about 20 minutes before he finally showed himself, and sure enough it was him!  Her shot was a bit back and clipped the back of the lungs or liver and as a result it took us almost 6 hours to finally find him. He went over 300 yards and not a drop of blood.  Thank goodness we had the video we could look at which showed us that the shot was good and he had to be there.

He's super narrow, but tall, heavy and real dark. Teeth were worn right down, I would put him at 6.5 or older.

This was the first picture that put him on the hitlist

Somebody used one of our blinds in the area and shot a deer, and then gutted it right beside the blind, so this was extra sweet considering the disappointment this caused. The great news is the other big buck in the area (the big 4 Lindsay passed) was also on the camera after the gutpile appeared so whoever shot something must have taken one of the small bucks, which is kind of what I expected since this area is almost exclusively meat hunters.

I learned a lot this year hunting with Lindsay, her level is patience is crazy, way more patient than me. She is also 8 months pregnant, so that made her accomplishment even more impressive to me.  Sitting in a blind for 8 hours a day in -30 weather it is not an easy task, but she put in literally 100's of hours doing just that, waiting for this day.

Congrats to Lindsay she absolutely earned that one. Have a ton of respect for her. It takes a lot to focus on one buck and take him, especially after fearing he may be gone. He is an absolute stud. Congrats to the both of you, you guys had a great season up there.
