PA #1 Down

Post  Bonedown on Sun May 18, 2014 8:18 pm

Saturday morning found me sitting in the dark awaiting the morning to erupt with the sounding off of a Longbeard. I only had an hour due to the fact my youngest son had a baseball tournament in another town. after sitting till 6:30 am , still patiently waiting for that first gobble, I decided it was time to head out , but not before hammering the box call with some sharp cutting! Off in the distance, a faint Gobble rang out and I decided to sit tight for 15 more minutes. I hit him back with loud sharp cutting and then followed his gobbling with more of the same . 10 short minutes and the sound of drumming was ringing in my ears. My eyes rolling back and fourth trying to pick up movement. soft purring and clucks coaxed him up to 30 yds as his fan was first to appear. hit him with some soft yelps and he went to gobbling like I've never heard before! He Gobbled well over 200 times from 30 yds with out ever taking another step. Blew my ears out!! Finally I eased my hand to nthe ground and scratched the leaves. That was all it took for him to step right up in the opening, leaving me a wide open shot. A soft purr and one last Gobble and I sent a load of heavy shot his way! 18 lbs , 8" beard , and 7/8" spurs. Cool thing was the spurs were almost ivory colored!
