What do you think?

Post  kyhunter123 on Sun Jan 18, 2015 7:49 pm

So i shot a doe tonight around 18 yards. The shot looks decent to me. A bit low but i thought she would fall within a 100 yards. i tracked her with not a crazy blood trail but there was blood for about 200 yards. She went down in the Huge bottom in the back so i figured i would wait until tomorrow to try and find her. Does its look bad or good???

Maybe only caught the bottom of the near side lung. Definitely deadly but they can hold that for a good bit compared to catching both lungs or some heart. I expect you'll find her in the morning.   Good luck!!!

I just watched an old Whitetail Watch show the other day and they shot a buck that looked just like that. Low liver. It took the buck thirty couple hours to expire. Depending on whether or not you pushed her you might have a lot of trouble finding her. :/

Unless the the angle was really steep or you just caught one lung who knows. How did the arrow look? Was there fat on the arrow?

I was a good bit above her. Not to high though.... the arrow had not much blood on it. At all. That was my first kinda eh thought. But much fat i don't think. After I got back to the house the fletchings had got wiped off by the weeds and stuff.

I think I hit lower to the right of that video. Is there any possible way I just didn't hit any vitals with that placement???

I do have some GoPro video that shows how high above her i was.....

Youtube made the video really blurry. But im to lazy to go back and re convert it. But you can kinda see her.

Here is a Picture from the video of her running off. Shot looks really good. But i guess the angle was to steep.

Here is what we were following. Then is got down the little bitty drops. then nothing.

I shot one once at about the same angle and spot maybe a little lower. When I found the arrow it had like a white film on it. I never found the deer only thing I could figure is I shot through the arm pit or brisket.

Looking at this screen shot of the buck that was hit low liver and your doe, I think the two look very similar. Note that the bucks front leg is back making it appear that the shot is right behind the shoulder, but it's not. Two differences that I feel are working against you is that your shot was a much steeper angle because it was closer and you doe was quartering to (or it seems to me that it was) harder that what the buck in the pic was. If you think about how a rib cage is shaped, the back ribs run on an angle making the vital area less wide at the bottom than at the top. If you hit low, You don't want to be back. If you had hit the same left and right but about 6" higher, this deer would have been laying less than 100 yards from you.
