So is this a Wolf or not?

I can not wait to  hear  what our Bioglist  say, that and  if it is a wolf, the person that shot it  could be in   trouble, Since our stupid state  added them to  a protective  species list   last year

I'd say that looks like a coyote

I'm by no means an expert,  but I could see where it has characteristics  of a wolf.  The head looks blocky and the ears look short, but the head could just be messed up from getting  hit. As far as its length if it's a wolf it's a young one. An adult  wolf is usually  between  5 and 6 feet long.

Who said it was shot by anyone ?   I didn't see that in the article anywhere.

Looks like a big fat coyote.

I also thought it was found dead. It looks like an enormous coyote to me but I've never seen one near that size

I assumed  it was hit by a car. It also looks frozen to me.

I may be in the minority but I'm thinking it is a small wolf.   If you took that flexible tape measure and ran it from the tip of the nose down along the spine to the base of the tail that would easily be well over 46"!   I've never, ever seen a coyote measure that big.  A huge coyote might weigh 60lbs but his skeletal frame is not 46+" long.    And looking at my taxidermy catalogs that measurement fits in nicely with several wolf forms Laughing   Just saying......

I might be wrong Steve but it looks to me like it (the canine) might be raised up on blocks or something to make that tape look longer. The tape sure looks like its a lot more out of focus that the fur of the dog. I know that no one would do that on the internet.

Vic it sure does look like it may be up on something BUT hold on a minute. I know every tape I ever used went from 1 inch to 12 inches. This tape sure looks like it goes to 10 inches , maybe my eyes are going but I don't see no 10 or 11 on the tape Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

A 'tenths' tape is still in tenths of a foot, so the foot indicators are still in 12 inch increments.

I was looking to see how big a coy dog gets and found this pic. So I guess it could also be a mix. Looks real similar  to the one in the picture.

It may look like a tenths tape but the 2 foot mark still looks wrong compared to the rest of it.

Sure doesn't have the huge head, long legs and giant feet of the wolves I have seen. Could be a young female but even they usually have real long legs compared to this one.
