Not what you want to find

Post  wihunter24 on Tue May 19, 2015 9:44 pm

Got home from work tonight and was working up a new foodplot.  Made a couple passes and when I turned around here was the hind end of a fawn laying there.  No fresh blood, but everything was pretty flexible still and not stiff at all.  Threw it into the weeds and started walking back to the tractor and noticed another small tan body with spots right in front of my field cultivator.  Same deal as the other one- no fresh blood, but pretty flexible etc....  Both were only the hind quarters and legs.  I did see what appears to be a small bed in the grass on the edge of my plot.  Something (bear, bobcat, yote scratch) obviously got a fresh meal.  On a more positive note, I did manage to scoop up a shed about 6" before I put it through the tractor tire....

That sucks Zack, I'm going to guess it was the bear but it's hard to say.

That was my first thought also  Vic, was going to ask Zack if that darn bear was still in the area, , only because, seeing the hind quarters left on those fawn's, kind of shocked me  for  a yote kill  now of  course  we do not have  bear's, but as far as  finding  any dead deer around here be it  yote or bobcat kills , The hind  quarters  are  the first favored  area eaten

Bears are still around.  Last one I saw on my place was last spring, but I had a handful of pics through out last year- nothing like the year before where I was overrun by those stupid things.  I've only heard of 1 bear being spotted this spring and that was a good 8 miles from me.

At first I thought I hit them and took them out.  I wasn't paying attention when I threw them into the weeds, and thought it just one fawn that I managed to hit and tear apart, but I took a second look and it turned out to be 2.

I was thinking the bear because I had seen one time that they will often eat the fattiest parts and leave the rest. But I don't know if they have a lot of other things to eat right now. So I'm not sure how picky they would be.
