European mount

Post  Boss Gobbler on Mon Sep 07, 2015 7:02 pm

Thought I would share, how I do a European mount. I needed to get last years buck out of the freezer, so I caped him out and did a European mount. This is the fastest, easiest, and cheapest way you will find. All you need is a pressure washer with a turbo tip (concrete cleaner) and a bottle of hydrogen peroxide the kind you use to color hair. Get as much meat off as you can then just spray it until its clean. I then cover it in borax it seems to help draw the blood out of the bone. Then cover it in peroxide and leave it in the sun until it is bright white.

Looks great!  I've never done one myself but I have heard that your way is the easiest.

How well will that work on some of these old nasty ones that I get in that have been laying around for a few years with the hide dried fast to them?

I have never tried it on those. We use to soak them in water for about a week then pry the hide off with a screwdriver.

It seems to, they aren't real greasy when you do them like this. The borax pulls a lot out of the bone, I put it on while the skull is still damp. Some guys like to soak them in dawn soap or paint thinner.  I only do that for the real bad ones.

This is after peroxide and 7 hours of sun. Its pretty much done. I have about 3 hours in it, a $5 box of borax and $20 for peroxide. Plus you can do about 10 skulls with a box of borax and bottle of peroxide.

Ok Boss, Can  I ask you  What volume level  of peroxide you  are using.
You  guys  keep saying   go to  a hair salon for the  peroxide , As  a  girl that  highlights her hair, every month Wink I  always have  20, 30. and   even  40  volume  peroxide  on hand,  So which one  do you  recommend,
That  and do  I need to do use the  Borax.? The   two   skulls  I  need to do  , I  buried in the  ground for  6months

I use 40 volume creme and I brush it on with a paint brush. The creme stays on the skull really well so you don't need a lot. All I use the borax for is to pull the blood and grease out of the skull.  Without  borax the joints in the skull and around the back of the skull tend to hold blood and it will stain.

Hey I never tried that!  The fact that you blast the flesh off before it rots, surely prevents the grease from penetrating the bone and setting that stanky smell in.  Blasting him in the eyeballs must be a thrill!  Does it reach the brain through the hole at the base?

Not to be graphic, but the eye ball will pop, then you stick the nozzle in the hole in the back of the skull. It will basically disintegrate the brain and push it out the nose and eye sockets. There is also some pockets of meat inside the muzzle you need to make sure is out.

For some reason the eyeballs always make me squeamish when skull cleaning!  No other part...that's why I like using beetles, they take care of it.  I'm definitely going to try your method though and tough it out!  the real advantage is that you can do it right away so there is no rot and the bone won't absorb stink or fat. So no smell or yellowing over time!  Cool!
