Crazy turn of events!

Post  Mountainman Vic on Tue Oct 06, 2015 9:35 pm

So I decided to hunt up the road from the house tonight in the bottom with hopes of filling a doe tag. About 6:30 I hear a snap and knew something was coming. I look to see a giant bull elk coming in. I'm guessing he was somewhere between 375 and 400 class. He walked in and stopped 20 yards broadside. No I had no intentions of shooting it but I couldn't resist the temptation of drawing and seeing the pins on him. So while at full draw the freak'n bow blows up. Bottom limb shattered into splinters. I about crapped myself. I thought I shot. After the bang and seeing the bull jump, I realized what happened. So after coming over a little to investigate the bull went on his way down the valley and crossed the creek and I stud there with a smile on my face because I knew that I was heading out to buy a new bow. I now have a Monster Chill R hanging on the porch.  Smile

Man glad you are ok. I have heard of a lot of bows blowing up in the last few years. I think they might be pushing the limits on design to much.

Hmm. Never heard many problems out of those. Maybe it was just telling you to get a new bow  Twisted Evil

You got that right. I'd sooner have the bow parts in my body than to shoot an elk like that.

Well me and you were almost in the same boat! Put my bow on the draw board to see how many pounds I was holding at full draw. Got to full draw and heard somthing and found this good ol limb splinter! Second time this has happened in 3 months. And deer season is about to get better Mad Mad Mad Crying or Very sad

Yeah Jacob, You don't want to mess around with that. At least your limb is still together. I should have taken pics of mine. The guys at the bow shops eyes bulged when they saw it. lol.

Yikes!  Scary...you'd have a tough time explaining how the bull got shot if the thrill caused you to release.  I'll be looking over my Drenalin LD closely before shooting it!

I had that happen with a Mathews Feathermax I had back in the day. Was practicing in the yard and one of the limbs exploded (can't remember which one now). They replaced it no problem but it freaked me out at the time!

Vic , did you happen to contact Mathews or do you plan on it ?? Also I don't know why you would get excited over that little bull , he was only a 375 Very Happy Very Happy !!!
I also agree with Boss on the design of these bows , I have been saying it for a few years now , things are and have been right on the edge of disaster so to speak. There is so much energy stored in these bows that it is almost unreal. You push the edge too far and your going to crash. I just really hope nobody gets seriously hurt or even killed from a bow exploding .
Now Vic , since you got a new bow , you can tell us that you dropped your bow and it came apart , or you missed a doe and wrapped it around a tree , maybe ran it over with your truck , come out with the truth Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy Very Happy

Rick I took the bow back to the dealer that I bought it from in Snow Shoe. They said I will get brand new limbs a no cost to me. That said, I've been putting off a new bow long enough and will likely keep the Drenilan for a back up. I'd sell it but I probably wouldn't get enough to cover the cost of sentimental value. Wink
