Yes that kinda sucks for all involved. About the only good thing was he used his radio to call the others and tell them what happened.

That's crazy. As I get older I am more aware of some of the stupid things I have done. Just the other day I was walking to my stand and it was really muddy. I always nock an arrow when walking to my stand.  The thought crossed my mind that I could possibly slip and fall on a muzzy, and I walked to the stand for the first time ever without an arrow nocked. Guess that is part of getting old and wise.  Laughing

Saw that...very sad and alarming!  It's been more than 10 years since a good friend and hunting buddy died in his treestand.  Mystery surrounded the accident as he had been hunting alone and was not found for hours after he had died.  He was found hanging by his safety strap with a bullet wound through his neck.  It was assumed he was raising of lowering his rifle while it was loaded.
Though there is much more to the story, it's another example that you can never be too cautious with weapon safety (or treestand safety).  I think of him often when I hunt...especially when I recognize I am not being as careful as I should be!
I will try and post the whole story before the site goes down...be careful out there, usually it only takes a few more minutes to be safe!
