Bow_dad's outdoor notebook
1-3-10
Gonna try to keep a journal this year. I really enjoy reading everyone else's and it seems like it would be great to go back through at the end of the year.
This was the last week of bow season here. I was lucky enough to arrow one more big OLD doe, and saw SG2 right by the house. I also got Tonya's bow ordered ( she seems pumped) and set up my tc encore. Jack got some camo for Christmas and is ready for turkeys allready I think.
After shooting hours were over, done for the year, I set up two feed / camera stations. One right were SG2 was and one in a little opening behind the house. We'll see how it goes....

Saw the wide 10 that Tim had been watching in the preseason on a drive to mom and dad's tonight.

I tried to get a pic but he slid into the pines while I was fumbling around with the camera.
I drove around the section and saw 2 other bucks that will be good next season as well. I can't believe the ten made it through with as much preasure as that area gets.
I didn't even bother counting how many does where out, the neighbors' crew took over 30 does off their farms and you can't tell they even made a dent...

I always wondered how my cameras did in the cold. Well I just watched 18 deer shadows go by my Stealth Cam, including one set of antlers that was outside the ears and the camera went off exactly twice
evidently not so well when it's 16 degrees...
put the spoting scope on the buck and I didn't know who he was but he looked decent, I can't wait for sheds. My friend Ben is up two on me.

Getting pounded by the snow today. Watched five or six does and fawns out the man cave window right at dark at the corn pile. One big old doe kept running all but one fawn (hers?) off untill she had her fill. It's got to be hard making a living out there, they are some tough animals.
Hopefully we can get after either some coyotes, bunnies or both this weekend

Got out to check the cameras a little bit ago. Tons of tracks in the snow, I kept an eye out for a shed, no luck.
Didn't get a pic of the new 10 that was out near the camera the other day but SG2 keeps playing along and it looks like the little guys still have thier head gear. guess I need to go back out and cut that darn weed down...

I just thought this was a cool pic

We have the state NWTF banquet tonight so hopefully I'll win a bunch of cool stuff.

Reading everyone's journals is very addicting; looking forward to seeing how your 2010 season progresses! Looks like SG2 was hogging the corn with a couple ghosts in the background of that first pic. Oh and by the way I agree go cut that darn weed down

Had the Indiana state NWTF banquet Saturday night. We came home with three awards, not bad for a little first year start up chapter, had a great time and met some really good people.
Tonya and our friend Barb cleaned house on the raffle, Barb got a Mossberg 500 tactical turkey 12ga. and T won a neclace and earings then they called out her number on a patio heater. I said "We don't even have a patio why did you put tickets in that bucket?" She replied "Because now that I have a patio heater we are just going to have to have a patio to put it on...".

Great start up on your journal there Jason. Man I really hope you can find SG2's sheds and put a tag on him this up coming season. The pic of all the slick heads in the snow is sweet.
Re: Bow_dad's outdoor notebook
Better get that patio built before next season Jason, otherwise I'll have to come over there and kill SG2 for ya while your still working!

Had a world class snowball fight with T and Jack last night. That left about 10 minutes to check camera's, I grabbed the 10/22 just in case. The camera's didn't produce much of anything but I did find a bunch of beds and managed to get a bunny for Tonya's grandma to fry up
Took three shots to finally hit him, I need to shoot more often!

Rough day today, put some miles on the old boots and got no sheds to show for it. Pulled two cards on the way but I left them at M&D's by mistake, I guess I'll see what I got on camera tomorrow.
Brother Rog and I were able to get his beagles out for a little right before dark and had one good chase.
And I got some traps set on the ditch north of the house. The trapping is alot of work for no more than skins are worth but I've been chasing critters in ditches since I was a little kid and I suspect I'll be doin' it for a long time to come as much fun as it is
Here's a pic of one of my box sets, hopefully tomorrow i'll have some good pics to post
