The New Missouri Duck Blind *Pics*
This year we got in the Missouri duck blind draw and picked up a pretty good looking new blind! We've put alot of work in this week though! The blind that was there wasnt built worth a crap so we burnt it down and rebuilt the blind and put 5 or 6 boat loads of brush (willows) on it and beaver hutted that sucker out! It looks pretty killer, toward the end of the afternoon we actually had a group of geese pile in as we were finishing up for the day! In the second pic you can see a small part of the point its built on which runs out about 50yds. or so. That point was covered in brush, bushes, small trees, you name it! But we cut down everything down to the dirt and it looks KILLER!!! We plan on tilling up the point and sewing it in winter wheat about the second week in October so by the time it comes up it'll be the only green vegetation around for those honkers to feed on!
This pic shows how well hidden it is... Lots of Brush!

This is taken from a small part of the point that runs down beside it.

Its not actually on the river its water pumped from the river, through a power plant, and back into the river using flood gates. The gates keep the water level fairly steady, but thats always a possibility... Worst case scenario you might have to hunt in waders for a few days till the water goes down. Im not too worried about any flooding stripping the brush off though, we ran a ton of wire through it and smashed it in pretty good. Underneath are a bunch of what we call poles (just long trees with a small circumference which we shaved everything off of) we wire the brush to the poles and screw the poles into the blind itself.

i see! that makes sense. on a river, i was thinking you'd have the possibility of being under water pretty easy!

Its happened to us before! Different areas ive hunted have flooded and stripped off all of our brush and ruined everything inside... A couple times even shifted the whole blind off its base, talk about a pain!

Im gonna try it out opening day of missouri duck season so we'll see! I think its gonna be better late season though... I was told the whole lake stays open and wont freeze because of the constant warm water rolling out from the power plant you can see in the backround. Theres a blind a little closer to the plant that looks like a killer duck hole! Cant wait to see what the area produces, thats for sure!
