The 1st week ends will alot of BANGS !!!

Well the 1st week of Pa. gun season is over. Monday was a bust for the kids and I, my wifes cousins kid missed a 3 point with 3 shots. He usually shoots good but I think the fever got him this time !! Tuesday was looking better. Of course the weatherman was WRONG !! The rain came at 8 instead of noon,we did see 5 doe just after daybreak. Then at around 10:30 or so we just got done loading the 4-wheeler, drying the guns off and getting those in the truck a buck ran behind us, went up the path thru the field and then walked towards our stand and then into the pines !! The rain never let up and we actually had some minor flooding going on. I hunted everyday behind the house with nothing to show for it. Now onto saturday, when doe finally came into the game !! I told the kids we were gonna sit behind the barn for awhile because the deer have coming over the top and heading towards the woods in the morning. Right on schedule here they came. The closed to within 125 yards of us and stopped. I told Cody to take the 1st one, Kasey the 2nd one and I would shoot the next biggest bodied one. It started with the 7 point out front, then he ended up being deer number 4. I asked them if they were ready, I got yes and told them on 3 we were shooting. Well after 3 shots the only dead one was the 7 point. We looked for blood but nothing, then I saw the 4 deer running off. After we took care of my buck we headed for the stand. We saw a few more deer but nothing close enough for a shot. Then around 9:30 Kasey says " somebodies goats are in the field" !! I look up and said " those are big goats" and then looked thru the binos to see a piebald !! We watched them walk thru the woods, come out and start across the field. They were heading right to us when we heard the bang ! Then they ran, stopped 15 yards from the woods and Cody shot for the lead doe and missed. Kasey now wants that piebald in a bad way !! Later on we had 8 doe at the top of the lower field. We were all getting ready for a shot when a car came down the lane and sppoked them. Next thing I know we have deer running across the main field and all I heard was guns blasting. Once again, no deer. I walked behind our stand and down the logging road and caught a buck sneaking thru the tall weeds. I got the kids to come down to me and then the piebald steps back out. Cody was on the buck and kasey was on the piebald. They only needed to go 10 more feet to my 4 wheeler path and an open shot when the buck spooked for some reason and took the doe and piebald with him. The day ended with just one deer, 9 misses but an awesome time just seeing that piebald !! I would like to seen one of the kids shoot the buck but we stuck to our plan of shooting the way we were sitting. The kids were upset they missed but happy to just get a chance. My plan worked almost to perfection, which would have been 3 deer down instead of one !! I already told them they will be doing alot more shooting before next year, and in all kinds of positions !! sounds like a fun filled week....ours ended down here as well....1 decent buck, he needed shot was gonna die from some type of injury to his front end...he could hardly move...1 buck a younger guy took that hasnt taken very many deer...and 8 does...including Ms. Kelsey Dew's!!!...so 10 total taken for our gang...not too bad of a week...

Sounds like a crazy hunt Rick, hopefully the kids get another chance before it's all over and done with.

The pics finally made it to the computer, after way too many tries !! Now the kids are on it messing around. The part that really sucks is the high school bowling coach decided to do a tournament this saturday , which is the last day of our gun season !! It wouldn't be so bad if it was local but NOOOO we have to travel all the way to Pottstown, which means we have to leave by 9 a.m. to be there by noon !! What kind of knothead does this during deer season ?? Oh well, the kids are taking friday off and we are hunting all day !!! I'll get the pics up as soon as the kids are done. I must say I was very impressed with that 300 shortmag, the buck never knew what hit him and dropped in his tracks !! I had to take Cody to work so Kasey did the skinning until she hit the front shoulders and the jelly !! Which wasn't all that bad,a small hole going in and a little bigger hole coming out, of course at 3130 fps out of the gun it was still smoking when it hit rib !!

Sound's like a wild weekend with the kids- hopefully Kasey can get another encounter with that piebald- I think if she can get it you need to let her have a full body mount done

She is one tough little lady !! We had the buck hanging in the barn until it was time to leave. Well I got the deer down, she grabbed the antlers and started for the 4 wheeler. I have no idea how but she loaded it on the back of the 4wheeler all by herself !!! This buck wieghs ore than twice as much as she does, she is tough like her Mom !!!

Hey old man wheres the rack, did you shoot it off Guess i shouldnt be laughing, the way its going in Illinois thats what we will be left with shooting in 5 years or less
