Best Coyote Rifle
Well PJ and Jimmy got me hooked on chasin after coyotes when everything else is out of season. I am looking for a good coyote rifle and was looking for a good rifle under $500. I've heard good things about savage and remington? Most of the shots where we can hunt would be no further than 200 yards most likely. Which would be the best caliber rifle?

That pink gun would make for some sweet field photos too!
I like the .223 personally but that's cause we shoot a lot and ammo is easy to come by and cheap (comparably). Some other common calibers would be .243, 22-250, or the 220 swift.
Something like the .204 would be an awesome coyote gun as well, and will probably be my next purchase (if I don't get an AR). Willy has a sweet one, maybe he'll give you some pro's and cons.
Get that new rifle bought and bring it up... we'll break it in right with round two.

I really like my HR chambered in 204. It's a cheap single shot rifle, but it holds tight groups. I can only think of one time not having a quick fallow up shot mattered. It does have a bull barrel, and I put the money I saved into the scope on top of it which was more of a priority at the time.
I don't shoot too many rounds so the extra cost on the 204 shells isn't a huge deal to me, like the way they shoot. Also I sell my fur and the 204 doesn't tear it up too bad

A 45/70 guide gun works GREAT !! Shots under 100 yards and it puts them on the ground, after a short flight of course

Re: Best Coyote Rifle
Savage makes some really nice actions these days, the accu trigger is a sweet set up and will make you shoot better, it is a great trigger for anyone but its a really great trigger for someone just getting into shooting. I have the Svage model 10 predetor, its a tack driver but it will run you more than your budget. You can look at the Model 16, its a synthetic stock, black, with a stainless action and barrel. should be able to ind that gun for around 400, the only thing I do not like about it is the internal box magazine. Thats just me. It has zero effect on how well the gun will shoot. If you look around you can find the original Model 10 predetor , full camo barrel , stock and action, for around 500.00 you will know its the original because it will have the internal box mag as well. Same gun as mine except you cant take out the magazine.
Check out the CZ 527 Carbine. Its a sweet little bolt action, and you can get it in .223 should be in your ball park.
I like the .204 but again its just me. If I were in an area were 200 yards was my max range just about any of the 22 cal guns will be fine, 22.250, 223, I would probably go with the 223 being your new to it and you will probably be wanting to shoot alot to get yourself tuned to your gun.

Well do you want a gun for just yotes or a possible deer gun also ?? The 25-06 is a great long range yote killer. I have shot may different makes and the browning a-bolt comes out on top but like Willy said, it may be over your budget. My daughter has a Savage in 25-06, that is number 2 on the list. Shoots awesome and we paid just under 400 for it !!

I was on a property on old Moro road this last weekend, jut north of Bethalto. We made so much noise in that crunchy snow I think we scared everything out of the section. I don't know what rifle you need, just wanted to tell you I was in your area, and by the way saw a pile of bobcat tracks.
I would listen to Willy and PJ on coyote rifles

Wow thats crazy! You were literally all over my stompin grounds!!! This year not so much, but ive hunted many a time in those moro fields for geese... as a matter of fact right off old moro road. You notice the lake in the corn field at the intersection of renken and old moro? we hunt directly across the street and all up and down the rest of the road.
