Barb if your making time you should try to see Arches , Canyonland, and Bryce Canyon, if you dont have the time to all go to Arches and Bryce Canyon. Spend the time and stay in Utah. Just my opinion. Bryce Canyon is one of my top 3 places out west. And Arches is just something you have to see to believe.

Tin Cup Co is a must, while your there, go up and see Mirror lake. It's relatively close to Gunison CO.
Mesa verda is pretty neat as well. Thats where the little rock dwelling indians were at, and you can go tour their camps and what not. Definitely neat to see.

Tin Cup is where I use to take my Kids camping every summer Brian. I will have to break out some pictures. Coming up from the east , from collegete Peaks and using the old silver mine trails in a jeep, up through Hancock pass and down into Tim Cup for the best Cheesburger in the world!

I've done the exact same trail, only in a suski samari.
And yes, the cheeseburgers there are completely awesome.

Re: Planning vacation
I wouldnt take it down them either barb! Colorado had a program years ago called, Tracks to trails, where they went in and tore up all the old small gauge rail tracks that were in the high country silver mines, they turned them into 4 wheel drive trails. Most of them look like goat paths on the side of a mountain. But you can rent Jeeps by the day in town. Its alot different taking one of those trails up above tree line vs. driving it on a paved road. You never know what you will see. That whole area is loaded with some really great things to do. As far as lodging, Barb I have never stayed in anything but the elk cabins north of gunnison, and Tents that we would set up in the summer up in the high country. I could get away with the camping when the kids were little, they got a kick out of taking a bath in creek or lake that was full of water just above freezing! But the wife aint having it now with them being gone. Of course our elk camp cabins arent much better. In Utah I always stayed at B& b's, and there are tons of them around the parks. You need to go see Arches, or canyonlands, Bryce would be a stretch, its on the other side of the state, but Arches and canyonlands are not far from the Colorado line. I am telling you, you need to see a sunrise and a sunset at Arrches. It is something you will never forget and something you wont find anywhere else in the world.

I'll second that! If you are looking for things to see in Wyoming, you have got to go to Jackson Hole and see the Tetons and Yellowstone.
