746 Pound Potter County Pennsylvania Giant Black Bear !!!!

18-year-old Jonathan Byler shot the largest bear on record in Pennsylvania this season, a 746-pound black bear taken in Potter County last Saturday. The Pennsylvania Game Commission confirms the kill, reporting the next largest bear processed at check stations so far this season weighed 734 pounds and was killed in Wayne County, PA.
Another Amish hunter slays a giant!! According to the report the family may donate the hide to a local taxidermist!!??!!

Yes that is a MONSTER !! I have seen some pics of that bear from a friend who lives up that way. We had one shot just inside the Potter county line in Wharton that was in the top 10 for the season but has been knocked out of the top 10. Nothing beats Pa. bears, especially when we can't use bait,dogs or anything, its all one on one. The part I don't get, the PGC has had updates all week but they state the bow season numbers are still being calculated ??? We did have pics of our 600 pounder from early thursday morning and a few others but they have all been night pics.

also a 175lb Female taken in Allegheny County. First one taken there since 1949. And who says hunting is bad is Pennsylvania??

The latest results that I read has there being at least 6 different bears over 700 lbs taken this year in PA! Plus a bunch in the 500 - 600 lb range. I think I might need to start bear hunting!


FYI, for those that don't know Allegheny County is where Pittsburgh is located and a very highly populated area.

Exactly you will never hear me complain about there being no bears in my part of Ky. Its bad enough worrying if Im going to get horned for having to much doe in heat on my boots. You can keep the bears.

Boss, you do have to worry about all that deer scent, bears LOVE it !! We were told by a warden that just may be the reason our bears got so nasty, I was using scent the week before and the week of all our damage was done, the bears may have thought a sow was in heat !!
No that wouldn't look like a small car, it would look like a big black limo coming thru the woods !!!

My uncle was so scared of getting harrassed (probably by my dad) about killing a cub that he passed on a 345 lb bear because he thought it was maybe too small. It was later killed down the hill. A buddy of mine from high school killed a 520 lb one and they killed 3 total in their camp. I've never been but I'm going next year for sure.

I just heard of a group of hunters had an awesome season !! 25 guys were on the roster and 19 killed a bear !!

Barb, trust me, you would LOVE watching them !! They are just cool critters that roam the woods without a care. Most of the time they are very timid and wouldn't hurt anything or anybody as they go about thier business.
It will now take until after deer season to have all the bear numbers in. We have some areas that will still have bear hunting during rifle deer season, which I wish they would get rid of that but it seems our bear population keeps growing and moving to different areas each year, so the extra hunting isn't hurting all that much.
